Mountain & Road Biking

Currently the trails at Windekind are not open for mountain biking, but we are considering opening a portion of the trail network in the future. However Windekind or nearby is a great starting point for road biking and mountain biking at other areas.

The Burlington Bike Path is a spectacular 12-mile bike and hiking trail along Lake Champlain. The Bike Path, converted from former Rutland Railroad roadbed, starts at Burlington’s waterfront, runs north through the city's public beaches and suburbs and scoots out on the Colchester Causeway three miles into the middle of the Lake; here you get great views of Lake Champlain, the Adirondacks and the city while feeling at sea on a bike!

The Stowe Recreation Path is an internationally recognized 5.5 mile greenway, paved for non-motorized recreation with numerous picnic and swimming areas. There is an optional quiet path near Stowe village for joggers and walkers only.

The Fellowship of the Wheel is a very ambitious organization that has worked in conjunction with local landowners to developed 10 trail systems some of which are about a 5 minute drive from Windekind. For the more advanced biker this is a great opportunity to ride some of the most interesting and creative trails in Vermont built by a passionate group of bikers. You can download maps of their trail system by visiting their website.

Kayaking & Canoeing

Windekind is also ideally located for kayakers and canoers. With Lake Champlain just 40 minutes away, paddle sport enthusiasts have one of the most beautiful waterways in New England to explore and enjoy. Numerous rivers and smaller lakes abound as well.

Several local outfitters offer kayak and canoe rentals including Umiak Outfitters, Canoe Imports, and Eastern Mountain Sports. And there are a variety of resources available online to plan a paddling trip while you stay at Windekind.
