The most unique feature at Windekind is the Cold Creek Railway. The Railway is about one-fifth the size of the prototype and is capable of moving heavy loads of people and freight such as fire wood and gravel. It is an historic model, reflecting a typical mountain railway of the late 19th and early 20th century. The locomotives, cars and buildings have been contracted from historically accurate plans and the steam locomotives run exactly like the prototype.
The highest and best use of the Cold Creek is to transport people through the various environments of Windekind. The train travels from the highly-cultivated lawns and garden areas, through swamps and meadows across bridges and trestles into the tall pine forest.
It's a journey that presents the natural beauty of the land and the diverse ecology of Windkind using a technology of transportation that is old, yet very useful.
Guests are welcome to be involved with the railway. Programs are being developed.
Finally, Cold Creek is still very much a work in progress. This map represents both the reality of existing track and the vision of future track and trains.
