Inspired by our love for this place and land, we, Mark & Marijke Smith, have crafted and cared for Windekind for over 30 years. We are committed to putting the same care into your wedding, leaving you with the feeling of a day well lived.

The spacious lawn has ample room for three tents with the largest being 40' X 180'. The tents can accommodate large meals, bands and dancing, while the first floor of the house compliments the tent site by providing a cozy and more private space for small groups. Guests at Windekind feel a sense of freedom to move about and explore and socialize as they like.
In the large lawn area, the guest party has a choice of sites depending on personal taste, tent style and the number of guests. The advantage of this option is that large numbers of people can be accommodated with plenty of space for moving around on the lawns, meadow, trails, and out buildings.
We have many places on the farm that are very appropriate for a ceremony site. Many have chosen the lawn and garden areas, but nearby meadows, and waterfalls across the meadow also have worked well for other parties.
Accessible parking is assured, due to a second private road leading to the farm that provides about 60 parking spaces.
We enjoy cooperative team work. Oranizing a wedding involves the sensitive handling of details, flexibility, organization and problem-solving skills. Most important of all, it entails working together with mutual respect and trust.
We also believe it is our responsibility to help you obtain the best value for your investment. We can do this by presenting you with a broad range of alternatives and their costs. In order to do this, Mark Smith works directly with all wedding parties providing information, advising, and overseeing the events of the wedding day.
Our goal is to enjoy the creative challenge of working together toward the common goal of creating an event that we can all be proud of.

"Mark and Marijke are committed to honoring the spirit and independence of each couple who gets married at Windekind. They are open minded and supportive people who will invest as much as you want them to. They actually cherish the energy that each wedding brings to their farm. For us, observing their love for their land and the devotion to each other and their ideals , was an inspiration. We set out looking for the perfect place for our wedding and Windekind Farm far exceeded our expectations." |

"I want you to know that not a day has gone by since our wedding that Tim & I haven't talked about our wedding and what a wonderful, amazing time we had, due in no small part to you and Marijke. You have no idea how many people commented--they absolutely loved Windekind Farm! I have to say, I really didn't think it was possible to have such a good time at our own wedding. Windekind Farm is a very special place, but it's you and Marijke who make it such a special place." Janine Pillitteri & Timothy Dominick Seattle, WA
"Windekind is a magical place. We were so comfortable having our wedding here, it felt like getting married at a friend's home. Mark and Marijke made every effort to make our experience pleasant and lovely. We, along with our family and friends, treasure the entire Shangri-La experience." Natalie Stultz, David Roberts August, 2003
"Mark and Marijke, Looking back, I can’t imagine our wedding happening without your help, suggestions, generosity, and hospitality. Every step of the way you were there to offer assistance and advise, but without pressure, letting us move at our own pace. And the way you opened your home to us and out families made us feel incredibly privileged. The farm looked amazing, the flowers were gorgeous and the event went off like a dream. You both are such wonderful people and we can only hope that our marriage will be as long and fulfilling as yours has been. We look forward to visiting you at Windekind." Melanie Brissat
"Your hospitality is beyond compare...your home is lovely, your warmth contagious, the flowers from your gardens are gorgeous. You even had the sun appear at the right time! Everyone we have spoken to since Saturday says emphatically that it was the best wedding he/she has ever attended." Mary & Bob McKee Cambridge, MA 2004
" Well we couldn't be more pleased with everything about Windekind. I can't tell you how many rave reviews we have received from our guest about the style of the wedding in general and specifically Windekind Farm. So many said it was THE best wedding they had ever been to." Deta and Bryan Pearce August, 2003
"Thanks to you Mark for coordinating the events of the day so professionally and effortlessly, and to Marijke for producing the beautiful flowers. We are truly grateful for the many kindnesses you have shown our family during the months preceding the wedding and on the day itself." Connie and Peter Ottowitz Stowe, Mass.
A working Garden Railroad is available as a unique component of a wedding. The railroad can transport any person--old or young, heavy or light--in trains of four or five cars. Many wedding parties use the railroad as mid-event entertainment. These trains are not big toys, rather highly detailed working models of historic locomotives and cars designed to transport people through the landscape. The tradition goes back to the times of Victorian England when private miniature railways were used to transport guests through the gardens.
" There was a palpable spirit, a unity and warmth and feeling of joy amongst all--a tribute to you and the beauty of your surroundings.....We feel fortunate that our paths crossed; you are special folks indeed." Barbara and Philip Wade Lyme, New Hampshire August, 2004
Over four years, a list of exceptional vendors has been developed--approximately 55 organizations or people ranging from caterers to musicians.
We help each wedding party explore its options, choosing from the list of experienced vendors who have a history of successful work at Windekind. A wedding party is free to choose its own vendors providing there is communication and planning with the Smith family.
