Weddings at Windekind involve use of the entire farm and especially the spacious 2-acre lawns that include three ponds, nine gardens, an extensive trail system and six buildings.
On these lawns there is ample room for tents with the largest being 40' X 180'. The tents can accommodate reception and rehearsal dinners, bands and dancing. Wedding parties also have use of the first floor of the house; this space compliments the tent site by providing a cozy and more private space for wedding guests.
In the large lawn area, the guest party has a choice of sites depending on personal taste, tent style and the number of guests. The advantage of this option is that large numbers of people can be accommodated with plenty of space for moving around on the lawns, meadow, trails, and out buildings.
We do ask wedding parties to rent both the Studio and Breidablick for a minimum of two days, usually over the weekend. Seeking the time to relax at the farm, many wedding parties rent these buildings for longer periods, four days and, sometimes, even a week. Our goal is to provide you with a sense of privacy and belonging by inviting you and your families to be at the farm as our only guests.
We also have bathroom facilities for the ladies and the gents in a small building calle the "Bath House.” This building is located at the head of one of our gardens. Guests are also free to use the bathroom on the first floor of the house, while the Studio and Breidablick provide three more bathrooms.
Accessible parking is assured, due to a second private road leading to the farm that provides about 60 parking spaces.
Guests at Windekind feel a sense of freedom to move about and explore and socialize, as they like.
Ceremony Sites
We have many places on the farm that are very appropriate for a ceremony site. Many have chosen the lawn and garden areas, but nearby meadows, and waterfalls across the meadow also have worked well for other parties.

Wedding guests enjoy the Garden Railroad.

A working Garden Railroad is available as a unique component of a wedding. The railroad can transport any person--old or young, heavy or light--in trains of three or four cars. Many wedding parties use the railroad as mid-event entertainment.
These trains are not big toys, rather highly detailed working models of historic locomotives and cars designed to transport people through the farm’s landscape. The tradition goes back to the times of Victorian England when private miniature railways were used to transport guests through the gardens.
Vendors & Resources
Over four years, a list of exceptional vendors has been developed--approximately 30 organizations or people ranging from caterers to musicians. This list has been heavily edited so it includes only vendors that we think offer you exceptional monetary and service value. Our first consideration, when considering vendors, is a careful look at a particular person’s history of successful works here and their overall enthusiasm for doing weddings at Windekind.
We use our vendor list to help each wedding party explore their options. A wedding party is free to choose its own vendors providing there is communication and planning with the Smith family.
Partnership Planning & Coordination
We enjoy cooperative teamwork, organizing and planning a wedding involves the sensitive and careful handling of many details, flexibility and problem-solving skills. Wedding planning entails working together by developing the efficient and effective communication systems that encourages you to explore and create options for your wedding at Windekind—put very simply-- we enjoy doing that with you.
Having helped plan and organize over 75 weddings, we strongly believe it is our responsibility to help you obtain the best value for your investment. We can do this by presenting you with a broad range of alternatives and their costs. In order to do this, we work directly with all wedding parties providing information, advising, and overseeing the events of the wedding day.
Our goal is to enjoy the creative challenge of working together toward the common goal of creating an event that we can all be proud of.
